With Avengers: Endgame eating up the major share of theatres, there are almost no releases in Tamil or Hindi. The only two Indian releases are in Malayalam, Uyare and Oru Yamandan Premakatha.
Avengers: Endgame
Produced by Marvel Cinemas’ Kevin Feige, Avengers: Endgame is directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. Despite half the characters meeting their end in the previous movie, the new edition still boasts an ensemble cast comprising Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson. The movie is reportedly Chris Evan’s last outing as the iconic character Steve Rogers from Captain America.
This franchise has several connections to India. AR Rahman was commissioned by Marvel to compose a theme song for the country to commemorate the culmination of the franchise. Director Joe Russo, during a recent visit to the country, said that Shankar’s Enthiran, starring Rajinikanth, inspired a scene in the Avengers: Age of Ultron film. However, that scene had to be removed in the final edit.
Uyare
Featuring Parvathy Thiruvoth in the role of a pilot named Pallavi, the movie tells the story of an acid-attack survivor. Bobby and Sanjay, the writers behind films such as Mumbai Police, How Old Are You and Notebook, have penned the movie, and said that it is not based on real events.
Asif Ali and Tovino Thomas feature alongside Parvathy in the movie. It is directed by newcomer Manu Ashokan, who served as chief associate to late director Rajesh Pillai, and the movie retains most of the crew members from Take Off. Mahesh Narayanan, who directed that film, edits Uyare, and Gopi Sundar is the composer. Mukesh Muraleedharan, who handled the camera for Njandukalude Naattil Oru Idavela, is the cinematographer.
Oru Yemandan Premakatha
The movie marks Dulquer Salmaan’s return to Malayalam cinema after a gap of almost two years. He was last seen in Bejoy Nambiar’s Solo, that released in 2017. Directed by BC Noufal, Oru Yamandan Premakatha features Nikhila Vimal and Samyuktha Menon as the female leads. The movie is written by Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George, who have worked on Amar Akbar Anthony and Kattapanayile Hrithik Roshan.
Dulquer reportedly plays a painter in the movie. The actor has rarely played a character hailing from a modest background. Barring Salala Mobiles, Jomonte Suvisheshangal, and his guest role in Parava, he has mostly played characters from affluent families.
A recently-released song showed Dulquer clad in a dhoti and bright shirt, biting his collar and dancing in an open ground along with group dancers – something he’s never done before.
