This week’s releases have quite a variety going for moviegoers. A cop-thriller, a slice-of-life woman-centric one, and two comedy films are set to release this Friday, Karthi’s and Vidya Balan’s being the major releases.
Theeran Adhigaram Ondru (Tamil)
The action entertainer is directed by Sathuranga Vettai fame H Vinoth and has Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead. Early this year, Vinoth spoke about the film with Ananda Vikatan, describing how the idea came to him.
He had originally written a script based on a news report in 2005, but required a big budget to pull it off. Vinoth had, therefore, put it aside and began working on Sathuranga Vettai. Later, through director R Saravanan, he met police officers who helped give him background information on police cases, and managed to collect about 400 documents detailing police procedures. All this inspired him to turn his 2005 script into a commercial film around a DSP who travels to different parts of the country to solve the case. The DSP is Dheeran Thirumaran.
Music is by Ghibran and Sathyan Suriyan is the cinematographer. SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu produce the film through their Dream Warrior Pictures.

En Aaloda Seruppa Kaanom (Tamil)
Translated to ‘My Girl’s Slippers are Missing’ from Tamil, the film stars Anandhi, Tamizh, Yogi Babu, KS Ravikumar, and Jayaprakash. Directed by KP Jagan who last directed Raman Thediya Seethai in 2008.
Dubbed as a romantic comedy, the film focuses on a male lead (Pandi) who finds a pair of shoes on a rainy day, and goes in search of its owner.
Jagannath dismissed any and all similarities between his film and the fairy tale Cinderella. The film was shot during the monsoon in places such as Cuddalore and Puducherry.
Punyalan Private Limited (Malayalam)
A comedy film directed by Ranjith Sankar, whose last release was Ramante Eden Thottam this year starring Kunchacko Boban and Anu Sithara, Punyalan Private Limited stars Jayasurya, Vijayraghavan, Aju Varghese, Sreejith Ravi, and others.
The film deals with friends who become entrepreneurs together and how they clash with the system again and the ways they adopt in an effort to make their dream come true. The film is a sequel to the 2013 film Punyalan Agarbattis in which Jayasurya plays Joy Thakkolkaran.
It is Ranjith’s fourth film with Jayasurya, with whom he is producing (Dreams N’ Beyond) and distributing (Punyalan Cinemas) the movie. Music is by Anand Madhusoodanan, his third film with Ranjith, and Vishnu Narayanan is the cinematographer.
Tumhari Sulu (Hindi)
Vidya Balan is known for hard-hitting and intense roles but in Tumhari Sulu, she will be seen in a whole new funny and full of life avatar, which, according to her, is amazing. The film is about a middle-class woman, who takes up a job as a late night radio jockey.
This isn’t the first time she’s playing an RJ though, the last time being Raju Hirani’s Lage Raho Munnabhai.
Helmed by Triveni, Tumhari Sulu is produced under the T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment banners. The movie also stars Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia and renowned RJ Malishka.
