12th Edition of CIFF Concludes

The 12th edition of Chennai International Film Festival concluded yesterday. Actor Abhinav, who anchored the event, stated that it was ‘a ceremony, and not a celebration’ as the film fraternity was still paying homage to K Balachander. All participants were clad in black.

12 Tamil films were screened at the festival, which was held over eight days. Poovarasam Peepee was given the Jury’s Special Mention Award, while Parthiban’s Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam bagged the Special Jury Award. Sathuranga Vettai was named Second Best Feature Film while Kuttram Kadithal was named Best Feature Film.

Also, director Karthik Subbaraj was honoured with the Amitabh Bachchan Youth Icon Award.

It was also announced that the K Balachander Award would be instituted from next year to honour the best actor. The winner will be given a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
