Aamir Khan’s Tamil Debut Delayed Further

It was speculated that one of Bollywood’s most sought after actors, Aamir Khan might be joining hands with director Shankar for the sequel to the mega hit film Endhiran, which had Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. Now, a source has remarked to Deccan Chronicle that the actor has decided to turn down the offer to concentrate on his ongoing Hindi film Dangal.

The source also revealed that director Shankar has been trying to get hold of Aamir Khan for the past seven to eight years. Aamir Khan and Shankar were involved in several script discussions, but, no script has materialized till now. When Endhiran (Robot in Hindi) became a humongous hit in Bollywood, Shankar ‘reportedly’ approached him to star in the sequel. It was also said that Shankar, Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan were involved in a script discussion for the sequel, but the Hindi actor, who goes by the rule ‘one film at a time’ decided to stick on to it.

Director AR Murugadoss, who helmed Ghajini  in Tamil is by far the only Tamil director to have worked with Aamir Khan in a Hindi film – Ghajini. The actor reprised the role of Suriya and the movie became a roaring hit in Bollywood.

After AR Murugadoss, many directors from the South expressed interest in roping the actor for their movie, but, their attempts were all unsuccessful. Reportedly, director Mani Ratnam had planned to do a bilingual film starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor post the release of his previous film Kadal. However, this untitled project never took off and the director moved on to his next film titled OK Kanmani starring Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen.

Back in 2012, renowned Telugu director SS Rajamouli, who is now busy helming Baahubali, stated that he loved Aamir Khan and his work. He was quoted as saying that he would immediately agree to direct for Aamir Khan any day as he would be able to learn so much from the actor.

So, what does it take to bring Aamir Khan down South? A gripping story? An ace director? Or the right time?
