Dilip Kumar, the veteran Hindi actor who was hospitalised for breathlessness on June 6, was discharged on Friday, his family friend Faisal Farooqui tweeted.
The 98-year-old actor was hospitalised at the PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai where he was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion, which is a build-up of excess fluid between the tissues that line the lungs and chest.
Farooqui wrote, “With your love and affection, and your prayers, Dilip Saab is going home from the hospital. God’s infinite mercy and kindness through Drs Gokhale, Parkar, Dr Arun Shah and the entire team at Hinduja Khar.”
After being diagnosed with plural effusion, Kumar underwent a successful procedure on Wednesday, Farooqui had tweeted.
While Kumar was supposed to be discharged on Thursday, the doctors and his family decided to let him rest for one more day in the hospital.
Following the actor’s hospitalisation, rumours started doing the rounds claiming Kumar had died. Refuting the rumours, Kumar’s wife and former actor Saira Banu issued a clarification on Twitter.
“Don’t believe in WhatsApp forwards. Saab is stable. Thank you for your heart-felt duas and prayers. As per doctors, he should be home in 2-3 days,” she wrote.
Banu had also shared a photo of Kumar from the hospital as an update of his well-being.

Kumar has been unwell for the past few years. Last month, he was admitted to a hospital for routine check-ups. Recently, he lost two of his brothers, Aslam Khan and Ahsan Khan, to Covid-19.
In his three-decade-long career, Kumar has acted in over 65 films. He is known for his iconic roles in films like Devdas, Naya Daur, Mughal-e-Azam, Ganga Jamuna, Kranti and Karma. He was last seen in Qila in 1998. Since then, his advanced age and deteriorating health have prevented him from taking on more roles.
He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
