Adhe Kangal, directed by debutante Rohin Venkatesan, has one more thing in common with the 1967 film of the same name. Talking to Silverscreen, Rohin said, “I had many titles in mind, but my co writer Mugil suggested this one, and I thought it was apt for the film. Just like in the original, where only the killer’s eyes are the clue to a crime, eyes play a crucial part in my film, but in a very different perspective. It has nothing to do with the story of the original.”
In the film, Kalaiyarasan plays a chef who runs his own restaurant, Janani Iyer plays a journalist, while Sshivada plays the role of a salesperson at a textile shop. The story, which begins as a romantic triangle between these characters, quickly turns into a thriller. Music director Ghibran composes the tunes for Adhe Kangal.
“We are yet to shoot the songs, and they are integrated with the story. Their placement will not stick out. Lyricists Uma Devi and Parvathi have contributed lyrics to the songs.” said Rohin.

The film is produced by CV Kumar, who has many thrillers (Pizza, Pizza 2, Thegidi) to his credit. Director Rohin believes that CV Kumar is the best producer for his movie.”If you want to make a big film, there are two ways to go about it – make a very glossy, star studded film, or make a small film with smart marketing. I think CV Kumar is the best equipped producer for the latter. He’s all about the content in the script. You cannot approach him with just an idea and try to impress him. He takes in only bound scripts and if he likes it, he will immediately agree to produce the film, and that’s exactly what happened with me too.”
Adhe Kangal has been shot in locations across Kanniyakumari and Erode. The talkie portions of the film has been completed. The cinematography of the film has been handled by Ravi Varman Neelamegam while Leo John Paul takes care of the editing.
