The makers of Agnidev, the new film starring Bobby Simha and Madhubala have replaced the title with Agni vs Devi. The new title was announced on social media.
Talking about their decision in a report, the makers said, “Agni vs Devi was one of our choices for the title. Post the editing and during a special screening of the film, we realised that the roles of Bobby and Madhubala were on par with each other and this title would do justice to the film.”
John Paul Raj or JPR as he has been mentioned in the credits, directs the movie along with debutant Sham Surya. “Moreover, the distributors and producers also agreed on the same. Hence we have changed it to Agni vs Devi,” JPR added.
As the title suggests, Agni vs Devi pits Bobby Simha and Madhoo against each other. The actress plays the main antagonist in the film – a minister by the name of Sakuntala Devi. Following the release of the trailer, there were reports of Madhoo’s looks being inspired by the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The directors were quick to clarify this. “Madhu plays an antagonist, but it has nothing to do with Jaya madam whom I respect a lot. She was a great political leader. When I narrated the subject, Madhu was excited and said she wanted to make her villain role special and different from that of Ramya Krishnan’s Padayappa or Varalaxmi’s recent negative roles. The story is about the fight between Bobby and Madhu and the ensuing cat and mouse game and one-upmanship narrated in a thrilling manner,” said JPR in a DC report.
Agni vs Devi has been inspired from a novel by Rajesh Kumar. This is the second time JPR will be adapting the author’s novel after Chennaiyil Oru Naal 2. Remya Nambeesan plays the female lead in the movie while comedian Satish plays a supporting character.
Music for the movie has been composed by Dhruvangal 16 fame Jakes Bejoy. Agni vs Devi is expected to release in February.
