Actor Ajay Devgn will be directing veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan in their upcoming collaboration, Mayday.

Film critic and film trade analyst Taran Adarsh’s tweet on November 7 said:

“BIGGG NEWS… #AjayDevgn to direct #AmitabhBachchan… An edge-of-the-seat human drama… Titled #Mayday#Ajay is playing a pilot in the film… Remaining cast under finalisation… Produced and directed by #AjayDevgn… Starts this Dec in #Hyderabad.”

Neither of the actors have posted anything in relation to the same.

The thriller will mark the reunion of the actors after a seven-year gap. They have previously worked in films like Major Sahab, Khakee and Satyagraha.

While details about Bachchan’s role have not been revealed yet, Devgn will reportedly be seen playing the role of a pilot.

Mayday will be produced by Devgn under the banner Ajay Devgn Films.

The word ‘mayday’ is a distress call used to signal life-threatening emergency, usually on a ship or a plane. A distress starts with the word ‘mayday’ being said three times in a row, so that it is not mistaken for another similar-sounding word or phrase. This is followed by relaying the information that rescuers would need, including the nature of the emergency, the location or last known location, current weather, type and identity of craft involved, fuel remaining and the number of people in danger. The distress call has absolute priority over all other transmissions, as reported by the Mint.

While Devgn has directed films in the past, including, Shivaay and U Me Aur Hum, this will be his first time directing Bachchan.

The film will reportedly begin filming in December after the actors complete their current commitments.

Bachchan is shooting for Sony TV’s reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, which he hosts. He was last seen in Gulabo Sitabo which released earlier this year on Amazon Prime Video and his upcoming works include Jhund, Chehre and Brahmastra.

Devgn is working on Bhuj: The Pride of India, Maidaan and RRR. He was last seen in the 2019 film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
