Vivegam is no longer releasing on August 10. The Ajith Kumar film will instead release on August 24, a move which has left the weekend of August 11 wide open for other films to release.
Magalir Mattum, Maayavan, Kurangu Bommai, Podhuvaga En Manasu Thangam, Taramani, and Thappu Thanda have all laid claim to the spot. Industry insiders warn that such an influx of releases on a single day will not be successful for any of the producers involved.
However, Magalir Mattum’s spokesperson is convinced that there’s enough room for everybody and told Silverscreen, “Every film is not the same. There’s an audience for everybody and I’m sure all films involved will find success.”
Meanwhile, some reports indicate that Dhanush’s Velaiyilla Pattathari 2 might release on August 11 or 18. Dhanush himself has dismissed these reports and said that he will announce the release date of the film later today at 7 PM.

Till then, the line-up of films releasing in the next two weeks remains unconfirmed. A source told Silverscreen, “If Dhanush decides to release his film on August 11 or 18, then most of these films will back out of the race and wait for September.”
