Akshay Kumar will portray social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham in his next film. Directed by Balki, the film will be produced by Kumar’s wife Twinkle Khanna. A fictionalised portrayal of Muruganantham had appeared in Twinkle Khanna’s new book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. Khanna is now set to produce Muruganantham’s biopic.
A source told DNA “It’s the kind of film that will appeal to Twinkle’s sensibilities. It will be directed by R Balki and will star Akshay. The concept is hers, and will be developed by R Balki.”
Arunachalam Muruganantham of Jayaashree Industries designed and created a machine that would make sanitary napkins on a small scale, thereby helping rural woman obtain cheaper sanitary napkins. His mini-machines, which can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a third of the cost of commercial pads, have been installed in 23 of 29 states of India. In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Shri honor by the Government of India.
Although Akshay Kumar has played characters based on real people in films like Rustom, Special 26, and Airlift, he has never starred in a biopic. He has however signed to star in the sports biopic Gold, where he portrays hockey player Balbir Singh.
Currently, Akshay Khanna is shooting for Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.
