Amala Paul will soon work with Rathna Kumar of Meyaadha Maan fame for a film titled Aadai (costume). The film’s director told Silverscreen that while most women-centric films focussed on empowerment and self-introspection, his film will explore the concept of freedom. The film will have no male lead, and will have a bunch of new faces who will portray “relatable characters”.
“Aadai will revolve around the boundaries of freedom. There is no such thing as complete freedom. Even in the word independence, there is dependence. Freedom comes with its limitations. and the film will look into these aspects,” said Rathna Kumar.

The director, whose debut produced by director Karthik Subbaraj was a sleeper hit, said that though his sophomore attempt might have elements of Meyadha Maan, it will not get into the man-woman conflict zone. “The story will revolve around Amala Paul’s character, a girl who is bold and different in her ways. The film will not necessarily have a social message.”
Speaking about how he chose his lead actress, the director said: “As soon as we finalised the title, the first person who came to my mind was Amala Paul. The role is tailormade for her and I don’t think anyone else is suited for it. I wanted an artiste open to trying something new.”
Pradeep Kumar’s band Oorka will handle the music for the film, while Vijay Kartik Kannan of Iravaakaalam fame is the cinematographer. Produced by V Productions, the first-look poster will be out soon.
