Amazon Prime’s Upcoming Series ‘The Family Man’ Drops On September 20

Amazon Prime’s next original series The Family Man starring National Award winners Manoj Bajpayee and Priyamani is all set to drop on Friday, September 20. The series revolves around the life of a middle-class man trying to strike a balance between his personal and professional life.

Raj Nidimoru & Krishna DK, known for creations such as Shor In The City and Go Goa Gone, will direct and bankroll the series under their D2R Films banner, marking their debut in the digital space.

The show’s promo, which released recently, has garnered 21+ million views on YouTube. The series features Manoj Bajpayee as Srikant Tiwari, whose character is distinct at home and work — he is a family man who hardly raises his voice, but also a spy who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency. He strives to keep his family together and is also seen to be involved in busting a terrorist operation.

The action-drama thriller is based on real-life events and geopolitics. The actors in the show have been drawn from many industries, including the South. The cast includes Sharib Hashmi, Neeraj Madhav (works primarily Malayalam), Sharad Kelkar (Hindi and Marathi), Gul Panag, Sundeep Kishan (Telugu and Tamil), Darshan Kumaar, Sunny Hinduja, and Shreya Dhanwantary (Hindi and Telugu). And, there’s Priyamani, who won the National Award for Best Actress for Paruthiveeran.

“With The Family Man, Amazon continues to bring distinctive and high-quality storytelling to our audiences… Viewers will also get deep insights into very relateable struggles of a family man, who attempts to balance both work and family,” Vijay Subramaniam, Director, Content, Amazon Prime Video India, said in a press release.

“We have been wanting to get into long-form storytelling, and were waiting for the right platform. And, we found an amazing partner in Amazon Prime…The Family Man is an ode to the common man — his hopes, aspirations, responsibilities, and troubles,” said producers Raj & DK in a press release.

Actor Manoj Bajpayee had mentioned in a recent interview that he was impressed by the 20-minute synopsis narrated by the producers. Priyamani, last seen in the Kannada thriller Nanna Prakara, will play Srikant’s wife Suchitra, who keeps stressing about the importance of family.

The Hindi series will have 10 episodes in the first season. It will also release in other languages, including English, Tamil, Telugu, German, Japanese, French, Italian, Brazilian and Portuguese, across 200 countries and territories.

The OTT platform had recently also released a video song ‘Dega Jaan’ (Will lend my life) showing the pressure Manoj Bajpayee’s character faces trying to cope with family and work. Watch the song here.

Meanwhile, Manoj who was recently bestowed with the Padmashri, has a Netflix Original crime-thriller Mrs. Serial Killer, co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez, coming up next. He has also signed up for four untitled films, helmed by new directors.
