The first look poster of Amigo Garage, an upcoming Tamil film starring actor Master Mahendran in the lead role, was released by the makers of the film on social media on Saturday.
The film is written and directed by debutant filmmaker Prasanth Nagarajan and produced by the People Production House banner.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Prasanth said, “It is a gangster thriller. Usually, when we see rowdies and gangsters in Tamil cinema, they are glorified and portrayed as brave men. However, I want to look at them differently and show their real lives. They miss out on the small joys that common people enjoy. I wanted to show that part of their lives. The story follows a common man who faces a certain issue and how his decisions end up turning him into a gangster. What he loses in becoming one, is the rest of the story.”
The film is set against the backdrop of a garage shop and all the characters revolve around the place, the filmmaker added.
Prasanth, who has also written the script of Amigo Garage, started to work on it in November 2019 with the intention to make a short film to send to festivals.

“We wanted a good performer and approached Mahendran in December 2019 with a one-liner. At the same time, I was also working on the script of my feature film Pagadai but kept that aside to finish the short film. After Mahendran came on board, we developed the script for about 40 minutes. It shows three shades of him at three different phases in his life, in school, college and at work. We shot the school portion in March 2020 beginning and waited for a while for him to grow his beard for the next portion. But unfortunately, around the same time, the first phase of lockdown was imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and we lost about 4-5 months. Mahendran then suggested we make the film as a feature film instead since the script had more scope,” the filmmaker said. He added that he used the lockdown period to develop the script and make it apt for a feature-length film. The script was completed by December 2020.
About 70% of shooting for Amigo Garage is yet to be completed. Shooting will resume from the second week of August. The film is being shot mainly in Hosur. “Being a native of Hosur, I feel that there are many beautiful and untapped locations that the industry has not yet utilized. Even the audiences have not seen this part of the state. Hence I want to show this part of Hosur in my film.”
The makers are planning to finish the film before deciding on a release date. Amigo Garage features four songs composed by Balamurali Balu.
Amigo Garage also features GM Sundar and Dasarathi in pivotal roles, and debutant Aadhira as the female lead.
