Anandhi: “I Was Initially Apprehensive About ‘Pandigai'”

For Anandhi, who has mostly played coy characters on screen, Pandigai marks a departure from routine. The trailer of the film sees her asking actor Kreshna for some draught beer. The actress seems excited to see how the audience responds to her role in the film.

“I was initially apprehensive about taking up this role. But, when I heard the narration, I was impressed with the the raw feel of the script. It would be very different from what I’d done till then, and so, I was cautious too. Also, one never knows the implication of doing such a scene in South India. But, director Feroz, producer Vijayalakshmi and Kreshna convinced me. I trusted their instincts and signed up for Pandigai.”

Anandhi’s character in the film is something of a spitfire who is also sweet. “Feroz has given the film a bold, realistic feel. It’s very rooted. My character is different from your usual Tamil cinema heroine. I hope my fans will appreciate it.”

The actress, who made her Tamil debut with Kayal, has an interesting line-up of films this year, including Pariyerum Perumal, a Pa Ranjith production.

“I am very excited to work with Ranjith sir. He’s one of this generation’s brightest and most talented directors. When he chooses to produce a script, it means the film has something to offer. So, it’s  definitely going to be a unique experience.”

Anandhi also has the quirkily-titled En Aaloda Seruppa Kaanom. “I am the person who loses her shoes in the film,” Anandhi laughs. Her character sets in motion the film’s plot. “Mine is a brief role, but pivotal to the script. It’s a fun, laugh out loud kind of film.”

Pandigai releases this Friday.
