Andrea Jeremiah will be seen as a police officer for the first time in the upcoming horror-thriller Maaliagi, directed by popular choreographer-turned-filmmaker Dil Sathya.
Andrea also has a second role as a princess in a period segment. “The film includes elements of action, fantasy and horror, and the story revolves around an assistant commissioner who goes to a palace for investigation and gets to know her past. The period segment dates back to 400 years,” the director told Silverscreen.
A motion teaser was launched after a function recently. It introduced Andrea’s character, and also actor Ashutosh Rana, Kannada actor Karthik Jayaram, filmmaker KS Ravikumar, Manobala, Aadukalam Naren, Madhumita and Telugu comedian Ali who feature in the film.
Speaking at the teaser launch Andrea said the film will be a significant one in her career. “I agreed to this film for the sole reason that I have a dual role, which seldom a heroine is offered. I have not got a similar offer earlier. The film gave me an opportunity to prove various shades and different looks like action, romance, emotions, a cop look, princess look, which appealed to me. Audiences are also receptive to such genres. The film is packed with a lot of commercial entertainment.”
Dil Sathya told Silverscreen, “We initially wanted to make the film in Kannada but the Tamil industry has an international market. The film will appeal to all audiences, and it so happened that our team too has members from different parts. Our editor Greyson is from Kerala, the producers are from Bombay, our male lead Karthik Jayaram is from Karnataka.”
The film has music by Srikrupa, and lyrics by T Rajendran. Thriller Manju was the stunt director for Andrea, who performed all scenes without a body double. The film is currently in post-production stages, with more than 60 percent CG work complete. First-look and trailer can be expected soon.
