Aniruddh had previously collaborated with Murugadoss on Vijay’s Kathhi. He had also composed the songs for Rajinikanth’s last release Petta. The composer, who is currently working with director Shankar for Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, confirmed his new venture during an interview with ToI.

When asked about his new projects, he replied “As of now, Indian 2 and Murugadoss sir’s film (with Rajinikanth). These two are my Tamil projects, and I have one in Telugu (Jersey, starring Nani).”

Reports emerged towards the end of last year that Sun Pictures was planning to produce a film by Murugadoss with Rajinikanth in the lead. However, the production house pulled out because the director’s previous release Sarkar, bankrolled by them, was mired in controversy before release. Subsequently, Lyca Productions took over.

The cinematography for the film will be by Santosh Shivan, who is working with the actor after a gap of 27 years. The duo previously worked together on Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathy.

The director had earlier hinted in an interview that his upcoming film might be a fantasy venture. This is also expected to be the actor’s last film before he enters politics. The film, which comes as the actor’s 166th outing, might feature him in a dual role.

Aniruddh talked about his experience of working with the Superstar for Petta. “The last six months were probably the best time of our lives… everybody in the studio, and not just us, but even Karthik’s (Subbaraj) team. We have all wanted to do such a project from the time we were kids. And then, it all came true with Petta. The last six months were a dream because what we have wanted to do for our whole life, we got to do in this period,” he says.

“Because, every day, I would try to make something. This helped me with the background score actually, because a lot of the good stuff that I chose to leave out because I wanted to do better songs, I could use those melodies somewhere in the background score. We worked our asses off, and to have finished such a big film in six months is a huge task for the director as well as me,” he added.

He sums up the experience by saying “It has been like living a dream, and we have enjoyed the success also.”
