On December 3, Rajinikanth had said that 40 percent of the film still remained to be shot. He was speaking to the media regarding the launch of his political party. Rajinikanth also said that his political work would not hinder the shooting for Annaatthe, as it was his “duty to complete it”.

Annaatthe is helmed by director Siva and bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under his banner, Sun Pictures. Earlier this year, the makers of Annaatthe had announced that the film would release in theatres in 2021 during Pongal.

This is Nayanthara’s fourth film with Rajinikanth after Chandramukhi, Kuselan, and Darbar. While Soori and Sathish will be working with Rajinikanth for the first time with this film, Prakash Raj was last seen with Rajinikanth as IG Subramaniam in Padayappa (1999), Meena as Ranganayaki in Muthu (1995), and Khushbu as Rekha in Pandiyan (1992).
