The trailer of Argentina Fans Kattoorkkadavu begins and ends with references to the Argentinian football captain Lionel Messi. Starring Kalidas Jayaram and Aishwarya Lekshmi in the lead, the film, directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas, is based on a short story by Ashokan Cheruvil.
After the northeast, Kerala is perhaps the only state where football enjoys a huge following, in an otherwise cricket-obsessed nation. The trailer touches upon the famed Argentina vs Brazil rivalry. And it is here that the actor Anu K Aniyan of the hit web series Karikku comes in. He plays a Brazil fan.
Contrary to one’s expectations, the trailer is not entirely dedicated to the world of football, and gives equal weightage to a love story too. For a brief while, the story shifts to a different country where the protagonist is shown to have to worked. But the trailer doesn’t tell the viewer the real reasons for the conflicts in the movie.
Barring the central characters, the cast comprises mostly of newcomers. Midhun Manuel Thomas has co-written the film with John Mantrikkal. Music is composed by Gopi Sundar.

Midhun Manuel Thomas’s last film was the successful Aadu 2. Aadu 3 is already being planned as a 3D film. The director is in talks for Kottayam Kunjachan 2 – the sequel to Mammootty’s 1990 hit film. He has also announced his 3rd film with Jayasurya, titled Turbo Peter.
Meanwhile, Kalidas Jayaram is gearing up for the release of Mr and Mrs Rowdy. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, featuring Aparna Balamurali in the lead, the movie releases this month.
Both Mr and Mrs Rowdy and Argentina Fans Kattoorkadavu have close release dates. Argentina Fans Kattoorkadavu releases on March 1.
