Balabhaskar’s Wife, Friend Summoned For Investigation Into Accident

Lakshmi, wife of late musician Balabhaskar, and his friend Arjun will be called in for questioning over irregularities in their statements to the police. Balabhaskar, wife Lakshmi and child Tejaswini were travelling to Thiruvananthapuram when the car they were in crashed into a tree near the Pallipuram CRPF camp on September 25. Tejaswini died on the spot while the three adults were hospitalised. Balabhaskar later died of a cardiac arrest.

At the time of the accident, it was reported that Arjun had been driving the car. Lakshmi said so as well in her initial statement. But according to the police, Arjun and some of the witnesses have testified that Balabhaskar was at the wheel.

The News Minute reports that the Attingal police plan to speak to Lakshmi and Arjun again.

“We have interviewed a few witnesses including rescue workers and those who arrived first at the spot. While most statements we got said that it was Balabhaskar who was driving, other statements have contradicted this claim. We are yet to gather conclusive evidence,” Anil Kumar, Deputy SP – Attingal, told TNM.

The first round of interviews were ‘blind questioning’, Anil Kumar said. This time around, if the police find any inconsistencies or irregularities in their statements, they will be cross questioned, he added.

Earlier this month, Balabhaskar’s father, CK Unni filed a complaint with the Chief Minister and DGP Loknath Behera asking them to launch an investigation into his son’s death.

In his letter, Unni said that the family had booked a room in Thrissur and planned to stay there over that night. But Balabhaskar had suddenly cancelled the trip and started to Thiruvananthapuram the same night. Unni said that the reason for such a hasty decision must be probed further.

Unni also asked the government to launch an investigation into Arjun’s past. He said that he had his doubts about Arjun over a recent financial deal between him and Balabhaskar.
