Bollywood actors Prateik Babbar, Pradeep Kabra and Jatin Sarna are part of AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, starring Rajinikanth and Nayanthara in the lead. Shooting for the film is progressing in Mumbai.
Prateik Babbar, known for films such as Dhobi Ghat and Ekk Deewana Tha, joined the sets of Darbar last week. He plays the principal antagonist in the film, and said in a statement, “It is a dream come true to have bagged this project in such little time. This year is looking very positive, and I can’t wait to commence shoot for Darbar.”
Earlier, reports suggested SJ Suryah would play the antagonist, and that director John Mahendran was part of the cast. But the spokesperson for the film said nothing had been finalised as yet.
Prateik Babbar is likely to be seen on screen with Pradeep Kabra, known for his comic-villain roles. Pradeep was also a part of Pa Ranjith’s Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala, where he played one of Nana Patekar’s aides. He has worked in Hindi films such as Delhi Belly, Dabangg 2 and Simmba, and was last seen in Tamil in Settai and Anjaan.
The latest addition to the cast is actor Jatin Sarna. He has already completed his schedule for the film, and tweeted his excitement at bagging the role. He is popular for his role as gangster Bunty in the Netflix original Sacred Games.

Meanwhile, Nayanthara recently joined the sets of the film in Mumbai. Reports suggest that Rajinikanth has a dual role in the film – as father and son. The first look poster also confirmed that he plays a police officer. Leaked pictures released recently from the shoot featured Yogi Babu and Nivetha Thomas, confirming their presence in the film. Nivetha Thomas is likely to play Rajini’s daughter.
Cinematographer Santosh Sivan will work with Rajinikanth on this film, 27 years after Thalapathy. Music is by Anirudh Ravichander. Sreekar Prasad is the editor, and T Santhanam the art director, Ram-Lakshman are the stunt directors. The film is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0.
Darbar began shoot in Mumbai on April 10, and the movie is scheduled for a 2020 release.
