The Indian film industry is fully on the way to a revival after the long lull due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. This week, Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 released and has received a record-breaking response from the audience. Meanwhile, the previous pan-Indian release RRR refuses to back down and is still earning good numbers even in its fourth week. However, Vijay’s Tamil film Beast has slumped at the box office since its opening day.
According to Box Office India, KGF: Chapter 2 (Hindi) managed to earn Rs 43-44 crore (nett) on Friday, which will take the film’s two-day collections to around Rs 96 crore (nett). The Hindi version of the Kannada film has witnessed excellent numbers in Mumbai and Delhi NCR, particularly. The original version, meanwhile, is doing well in its home state of Karnataka, collecting around Rs 27 crore on day one.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF Chapter 2 is the sequel to the filmmaker’s 2018 blockbuster KGF Chapter 1. The first instalment witnessed the biggest opening in the history of the Kannada film industry.
Like its predecessor, the pan-Indian film was released in five languages – Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi. Aside from Yash, KGF Chapter 2 also stars actors Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and Sanjay Dutt, among others.
Meanwhile, RRR, which entered its fourth week on Friday, is still going strong and does not seem to be much affected by KGF 2’s presence. According to BOI, the film earned around Rs 3 crore (nett) on Friday, which was relatively the same as during the first three days of the week. If the audience pull continues to remain the same, it will become the highest-grossing film of the year in a day or two. RRR (Hindi) is expected to finish somewhere in the Rs 260-270 crore (nett) range.
RRR is a pan-Indian period drama, which narrates a fictional account of freedom fighters Alluri Sitaramaraju and Komaram Bheem, essayed by Ram Charan and Junior NTR, respectively. The film features a star-studded cast drawn from several film industries, including Hindi actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, Irish actor Alison Doody, Shriya Saran, Ray Stevenson, and Olivia Morris, among others.
With KGF 2 and RRR performing exceptionally well, Vijay’s Beast is struggling at the box office. The film saw a 30% drop in collections in its home state of Tamil Nadu on Friday after already dropping by 45% on day two (Thursday). This brings up its three-day collection in the state to approximately Rs 50 crore (nett). The Hindi version of the film, however, is yet to earn even Rs 1 crore (nett).

Written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Beast is produced by Sun Pictures. The mall-invasion thriller features Vijay as a RAW agent, alongside actors Pooja Hegde, Shine Tom Chacko, Redin Kingsley, Aparna Das, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Ankur Ajit Vikal, Liliput Faruqui, and filmmaker Selvaraghavan.
Beast still has hope since it is the Easter holiday weekend. However, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 will likely continue to give it tough competition.
