CBFC Wants To Remove Islamic References From ‘Begum Jaan’

Following CBFC’s direction to the makers of Begum Jaan to replace Islamic references in the movie, the line – “Allah kehke Bismillah. Naam Nabi ka Holi” – has been replaced with “Tan se khele ang-rang daala Brij ki har bala“.

The board apparently felt that the line would hurt religious sentiments. According to a report in DNA, a reference to a dargah has also been replaced with saarai

A CBFC source, speaking to DNA, said: “We can’t take any risks with religious sentiments. Cross-religious references are all very well and a sign of a liberal India. But we can never be sure of how the not-so-liberal India would react to this.”

Begum Jaan has been directed by Srijit Mukherji, and stars Vidya Balan, Gauhar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Nassuredin Shah and Chunkey Pandey in prominent roles. The movie is set to hit screens on April 14.
