The CBFC has said it will clear the film Jab Harry Met Sejal for release, without muting/cutting the word intercourse, if at least one lakh people vote for it.
Indian Express reports that the chairman of the CBFC, Nihalani issued a challenge to the producers, via a TV interview, to get one lakh votes in favour of retaining the word, mainly from families with children.
He said, “You take voting from the public and I will clear the word (intercourse) on the promo and the film also. I want 1 lakh votes and I want to see that India has changed and Indian families want their 12-year-old kids to understand the meaning of this word.”

The Imtiaz Ali film starring Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma is getting ready for release on August 4, and the producers have released 3 trailers to promote the film. In the third teaser, the character Sejal says ‘intercourse’, which the CBFC has taken objection to. The board has said that the trailer will not be passed for TV release.
However, the producers have shared the trailer on YouTube. Nihalani said, “They’ve uploaded the uncut trailer on YouTube. The CBFC cannot stop content on the internet. But we can and will stop the broadcast of the uncensored footage on television.”
