Chandra Haasan, elder brother of actor Kamal Haasan and father of actress Anu Haasan, succumbed to a massive heart attack last night in London.
He was 82.
Chandra Haasan is survived by his daughter Anu, son Nirmal Haasan who stays in the USA, brothers Kamal and Charu Haasan, and sister Nalini. Incidentally, Chandra Haasan’s wife, Geethamani, died of a heart attack in January this year. She was 73 years old.

Born in 1936, Chandra Haasan took up law; his father D Srinivasan, and elder brother, Charu Haasan being lawyers as well. While Charu Haasan dabbled in acting along with his younger brother, Chandra Haasan produced a few of Kamal’s movies, and was also an executive with Rajkamal International, Kamal’s film production and distribution company. He handled production for films like Vishwaroopam, and even Kamal’s last film, Thoongavanam.
In February last year, while on a tour in the USA, Kamal had visited Chandra Haasan and his nephew’s family in San Jose. The actor had posted a picture on social media – of the family in happier times.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson close to Kamal Haasan said that the family is yet to decide whether the funeral will take place in London or India.
