Chinmayi On SuchiLeaks: ‘Suchitra Apologised To Me Via Email Soon After’

Singer Chinmayi Sripradha at CIFW 2014 Day 3 - Chennai International Fashion Week

In light of Chinmayi’s #MeToo revelations against lyricist Vairamuthu and the support she has received for her decision to come out, several social media users observed that Suchitra Karthik, who levelled sensational accusations against several film industry figures last year, was not given the same treatment.

Karthik Kumar, Suchitra’s husband, responded to one such tweet and said that Suchitra’s accusations were not supported as it came at a time when the singer was facing mental health issues.

Chinmayi, through a video on her social media account, then said that she finally felt ‘happy’ that someone set the record straight.

Suchitra had tweeted to Chinmayi last year and alleged that Chinmayi had undergone four abortions at a local hospital. In her video, Chinmayi said:

“Many good-hearted people have used obscene language to ask me about my four abortions. These are lies but still, whenever I promote something, someone asks me about those four abortions. Suchitra’s husband has reacted to one such tweet and has said that Suchitra was mentally ill at the time she made those accusations.”

She went on to add that Suchitra sent an apology via email. “But I don’t feel the necessity to share the mail in public. It would take me less than two minutes but I’m not willing to put that out.”

Chinmayi also said that the truth will come out at some point, and that she’s willing to wait for that to happen.

The singer, earlier this month, accused Vairamuthu of sexually harassing her. She also posted screenshots of her conversations with women who underwent similar experience with Vairamuthu.

Recently, Vairamuthu issued a strong denial of these accusations and said that he had assembled a legal team to take the fight to the courts, if need be. “Let the court decide if I am a good man or an evil one,” he said.

A spokesperson for the lyricist reiterated his stance. “Everything these people have come up with is false. We have solid evidence that what they say is false. This is just a trend that everybody is following,” he said.
