Complaint Filed Against Sanju For Demeaning Sex Workers

A complaint has been filed against Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju which is releasing on June 29, accusing that the Sanjay Dutt biopic has allegedly used derogatory language against sex workers.

Social activist Gaurav Gulati has filed the complaint with the National Council for Women, who have forwarded it to the Electronic Media Monitoring Centre. The EMMC was tasked to monitor television content and report on any violations of the programme and advertising code.

Gulati refers to two dialogues in the film, where Ranbir Kapoor allegedly uses derogatory language when speaking about sex workers. At one point in the film’s trailer, a journalist (Anushka Sharma) asks Dutt about his sex life, to which he replies:

The Sanjay Dutt biopic was earlier in the news for its depiction of the prison system.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam K Ahuja, Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala in lead roles, Sanju follows the life of Hindi film star Sanjay Dutt as he battles drug addiction, terrorism charges and his own destructive self. Koirala plays Nargis Dutt while Rawal steps in as Sunil Dutt.
