Controversial Scene From Irumbu Thirai On Aadhaar And Digital India Initiative Released

Vishal Starring Irumbu Thirai Movie Stills

Debutant director PS Mithran’s Irumbu Thirai, starring Vishal, Arjun and Samantha, takes on the central government’s data privacy and Digital India initiatives. A previously censored scene where Vishal’s character – Kathir is seen saying that the system has been corrupted by Aadhaar and Digital India has now been released.

Referring to the villain, the hacker White Devil played by Arjun, Kathir says, “He can print notes in Nashik and even tamper with the votes in elections if he likes. Until now he had only hacked our phones. Now he will hack our lives.”

Ahead of the film’s release, a public interest lawsuit was filed in the Bombay High Court demanding a stay on the release of Irumbuthirai since its trailer allegedly had certain dialogue criticising Aadhaar and Digital India.

“Aadhaar card is issued only for the welfare of the general public which cannot be doubted in any event,” the petitioner had stated.
