Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal announced on Wednesday that his government will soon roll out the “most progressive” film policy in India, which he believes will revitalize the entertainment industry.
Kejriwal was speaking to reporters at the PVR Cinemas relaunch of one of its oldest properties, Priya in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area.
After inaugurating the theatre, the chief minister pointed out that the entertainment industry has been badly affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the livelihood of a large number of people has taken a hit. He then announced that a new film policy for Delhi is on its way. “After studying the film policies of various states, I believe it will be the most progressive film policy that will give a massive boost to the entire entertainment industry,” he said.
Kejriwal also added that the new policy is in the advanced stages and it will get cabinet clearance very soon.
The Chief Minister had chaired a review meeting earlier this month to study the progress in drafting the new policy.
A senior government official told the Hindustan Times that the government is planning to set up a single-window clearance mechanism for issuing shooting permits. The new policy also aims to develop locations and inventory of equipment, and offers a host of incentives to filmmakers, the official added.
Earlier this month, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched J&K’s New Film Policy in Srinagar, which was attended by actor Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani.

According to Sinha, the new film policy “will transform Jammu Kashmir into the most preferred destination for the entertainment industry, reviving J&K’s halcyon days of being a cinematographer’s delight and bringing back the golden era of film shooting in J&K.”
The aim of J&K’s new film policy is to maximise “the potential of promising local talent and creating livelihood opportunities for many.” The government has set up a single-window clearance mechanism and prepared equipment, location and talent directories, and as per the new policy, there will also be fiscal incentives for filming in J&K.
