Contrary to reports, Dhanush is not remaking Naga Chaitanya and Samantha-starrer Majili. The film directed by Shiva Nirvana released last week and is holding up well at the box office; it is said to have crossed 50 crore in revenue.
Talking to Silverscreen, the official spokesperson for Dhanush said “There has not been any official word regarding the Majili remake. Given Dhanush’s current commitments, which already span two years, it is highly unlikely to happen.” It had been reported that Dhanush was in talks to buy the rights to the Telugu film and also reprise Naga Chaitanya’s role.
Majili is Samantha Akkineni and Naga Chaitanya Akinneni’s fourth film together, and their first one post-marriage. The film features a second female lead in the form of Divyansha Kaushik. Majili also features Rao Ramesh, Posani Krishna Murali and Subbaraju in supporting roles. Music is composed by Gopi Sundar.

Meanwhile, Dhanush is simultaneously shooting for two films. He completed the first schedule of his film with RS Durai Senthilkumar earlier this month. The movie has been produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. The actor previously worked with Durai in the 2016 hit Kodi, which featured Dhanush in dual roles. Trisha played the antagonist in the film that revolved around the deeply competitive world of politics. Dhanush is also shooting for director Vetrimaaran’s Asuran; the present schedule is likely to go on till the first week on May. In the first schedule, the director shot some major portions involving Dhanush and Sneha, who were last seen together 13 years ago in Selvaraghavan’s gangster saga Pudhupettai.
Vetrimaran’s Asuran is an action drama adapted from a novel called Vekkai, written by author Poomani. Popular Malayalam actress Manju Warrier plays one of the female leads. The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, who also produced Dhanush’s VIP 2. Music is composed by GV Prakash Kumar.
