Rajinikanth will team up with Kabali director Pa Ranjith once again for a new film, and actor Dhanush will produce it through his production house Wunderbar Studios. Dhanush announced the news on Twitter:

This is the first movie in which Rajinikanth is working with his son-in-law, Dhanush. According to a source close to Dhanush, work will begin on the new film after Rajinikanth finishes his portions in Shankar’s 2.0.
As expected, within minutes of the announcement, the official accounts of Dhanush, Rajinikanth, and Pa Ranjith began trending on Twitter. News of the film has also sparked reports that the project might be a sequel to Kabali. The film, which released on 22 July this year, had an ambiguous ending. Ranjith had also gone on record after the film’s release to say that the story for the sequel was ready. The film’s producer Kalaipuli S Thanu also revealed his desire to produce the sequel.
Interestingly, Pa Ranjith was expected to begin work on his film with Actor Suriya, shortly. Suriya was reportedly roped in to play a North Madras boxer. But there was no official announcement about it. There have also been reports in the past few weeks that claimed Suriya had chosen to work with director Muthiah for his next film, instead.
Rajinikanth is currently busy filming key scenes for 2.0. The film, starring Amy Jackson and Akshay Kumar in lead roles, is expected to release next year.
