Dhanush’s The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Will Be Screened At Cannes

Dhanush’s first ever international project The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir, will be introduced at the Cannes Film Festival, slated to take place next month.

According to The Hindu, the film will be honoured at the India Day celebrations at the festival on May 11. The India poster for the film will be unveiled by the cast, followed by a question-answer session with the film’s team in Marche du Cinema (Cannes Film Market).

The film is based on the French novel L’ extraordinaire voyage du fakir qui était resté coincé dans une armoire Ikéa ( The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir who got trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe) written by Romain Puertolas.

This was Puertolas debut novel. The book which was published in 2004 has been translated into 35 languages. The plot follows 38-year-old Ajatashatru Oghash Rathod from Mumbai who embarks on an extraordinary voyage across Europe.

Directed by the Canadian filmmaker Ken Scott, the movie will see actors from different film industries and cultures. Berenice Bejo, the Oscar-nominated actress of The Artist, co-stars with Dhanush. Barkhad Abdi, Erin Moriarty and Abel Jafri are also part of the movie. The film is set in Mumbai, Paris, the Falklands, Spain, Rome and Libya, and will release in France on May 30. The dates for the India release will be out soon.

Apart from Dhanush’s film, two other Indian films will also be screened at the festival. Nandita Das’ Manto in the official ‘Un Certain Regard’ section and Rohena Gera’s Sir in the parallel ‘International Critics’ Week’ will be representing the country at the festival.
