Dharmaprabhu Teaser Review: Yogi Babu As Yamaraja In This Fantasy-Comedy

The official teaser of Yogi Babu’s Dharmaprabhu has released. Written and directed by Muthukumaran, Dharmaprabhu is Yogi Babu’s first movie as a lead actor. It’s a political satire set against a mythological backdrop, with Yogi Babu starring as the new leader of Yamaloga, and Ramesh Tilak as his assistant. Kovai Sarala, Manobala, Motta Rajendran and others are his aides.

The teaser portrays Yogi Babu as an inept leader, with his decree that all ‘good’ people be sent to hell, and the sinners to Earth. Following this, a character is seen complaining that unqualified people used to be restricted to jobs on Earth, but have now made their way to Yamaloga as well. This seems to be the premise of the movie. The teaser shows parallels to present-day politics in Tamil Nadu (a character is shown that bears a striking resemblance to OPS), with Kovai Sarala taking a dig at the AIADMK and DMK political hierarchies (“After Amma, we got Chinnamma, and after Ayya we got Chinnaya”).

Dharmaprabhu teaser has released days ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. It is to be noted that Kovai Sarala recently announced her entry to Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam, a party which has been critical of both AIADMK and DMK. The film also stars Meghna Naidu in a special appearance for a song. Janani Iyer, Sam Jones, Rekha and Radha Ravi feature as supporting actors. Late actor Cho Ramaswamy, played by Bosskey, features in the teaser.

Cinematography for the film is by Mahesh Muthuswamy, music is by Justin Prabhakaran. The movie is produced by Sri Vaari Film. Dharmaprabhu has been shot in Pollachi, and is an important movie for Yogi Babu whose second project as a lead actor, Gurkha, is also gearing up for release.

In a conversation with Silverscreen earlier, he said that Dharmaprabhu was challenging film, “But I think I am really up for the challenge. I am at that time in life where I would really like to branch out. So, there’s that. I want to use this opportunity to supplement my career as a comedian while also experimenting with unusual roles.”

The actor, last seen in Airaa, is busy with a line of films scheduled for release. This includes Kuppathu Raja, Aalukku Paathi 50/50, Sathuranga Vettai 2, Adangathey, Nindru Kolvaan, Shaitan Ka Bachcha, 100% Kadhal and Maanik.
