The Madras High Court has sent a notice to Rajinikanth and the filmmakers of Kaala over copyright issues, reported News 18.
Apart from Rajinikanth, his son-in-law Dhanush who is producing the movie, and director Pa Ranjith and the South Indian Movie Actors Association received the notice after a petition was filed by Rajashekaran, proprietor of GSR Vinmeen Creations, the report added.
In the petition, Rajashekaran alleged that he had developed the plot and the story decades ago while working as an assistant director in the Tamil film industry. He said he even titled the movie as Kaala Karikaalan and wanted the superstar as the lead.

The case was registered in the high court in October 2017 over the title Karikaalan, which in the petition he said is already registered with the South Indian Chamber of Commerce. Dhanush, on the other hand, has stated that the story was scripted by Pa Ranjith. The court has asked the team to respond by February 12.
Kaala is in the post-production stages. The film will also see Huma Qureshi and Nana Patekar coming back to Tamil cinema. Superstar plays the role of a gangster from the slums of Mumbai.
