Dongalunnaru Jaagratha, the upcoming Telugu film led by actors Samuthirakani and Sri Simha Koduri, the younger son of veteran composer MM Keeravani, is a survival thriller revolving around a petty thief, the film’s director Sathish Tripura tells Silverscreen India.

The film’s first look poster was recently released via social media.

Dongalunnaru Jaagratha, which marks the directorial debut of Sathish, is produced by D Suresh Babu under the Suresh Productions banner and Sunitha Tati.

“The title translates to ‘beware of thieves’ and the film is about a thief whose mundane routine turns into a roller coaster ride,” says Sathish. “The whole story takes place over the span of a few days. The role of the thief is played by Sri Simha.”

Sathish, who wrote the film during the pandemic lockdown, adds, “I worked as an associate on Drushyam and I have also worked as a freelance writer in the Telugu film industry. During the pandemic, I was asked to creatively execute and produce a project. It was around the same time that I pitched the idea of Dongalunnaru Jaagratha.”

Asked if the film is based on true events, the filmmaker says that it is not although connections can be made with a lot of real-life situations.

Aside from Sri Simha and Samuthirakani, the cast also includes Srikanth Iyengar and Preethi Asrani in prominent roles.

Sathish tells us that the shooting of Dongalunnaru Jaagratha is nearly complete. The film went on floors in October 2021 and it has been shot entirely in Hyderabad by cinematographer Yeshwanth C. Garry BH is the editor of the film, which has music by Kaala Bhairava. “There will not be many songs as I don’t want to disturb the suspense of the thriller,” says the director.

“We are looking to complete the film in March, but we are yet to decide on the date and mode of release,” he adds.
