Dwayne Johnson, the Hollywood actor and former professional wrestler also known as The Rock, will star in and co-produce a feature film titled Red One with Amazon Studios, Deadline reported. The film is described as a “globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy” which imagines “a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”
Red One marks the first collaboration between Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and Amazon Studios. The actor on Monday posted a photo with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Instagram, hinting at the collaboration.
Amazon acquired the project after a bidding session. It will go on floors in 2022 and will release in 2023, during the holiday season.
The film was conceived by Hiram Garcia, President of Production at Seven Bucks Productions, the company that Johnson founded with Dany Garcia. Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia will co-produce the project.
“Red One is incredibly special to me and a story I’ve wanted to tell for years,” Hiram Garcia said in a statement, adding, “An epic, edge-of- your seat, action adventure that takes beloved holiday mythology and turns it on its head.”
“Hiram’s concept and the world he’s envisioned are uniquely original,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios.
