Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will have a sequel, Warner Bros confirmed. The news comes three months before the release of the first instalment – and just days after the release of the two-part play, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child. Warner Bros said that the second film would ‘move deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world’.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them has Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a ‘magizoologist’; and would follow his adventures in the wizarding world of New York, seventy years before Harry’s journey started. Most of the cast have been retained for the sequel with David Yates set to direct. David Heyman, who has been part of the production of all the Harry Potter films, will produce this one as well.

Fantastic Beasts is inspired by JK Rowling’s book of the same name. Rowling is also writing the screenplay of the sequel. She had previously said that Fantastic Beasts would be a trilogy. But this is the first time, Warner Bros has confirmed the plan. A spin-off/prequel of the wildly successful Harry Potter series, this budding franchise features the likes of Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston in important roles. While Waterston plays the role of a young, do-gooder (witch) who ‘longs to fight for what’s right’, Farrell plays an experienced Auror tasked with tracking down Scamander.
The sequel has a tentative release date of 16 November, 2018.
