The lyrical video of Nilamellam from Irandam Ulagapporin Kadaisi Gundu, directed by Athiyan Athirai and produced by Pa Ranjith’s Neelam Productions is out now. This is the first single from the film and marks the cinematic debut of musician, Tenma. Tenma is the leader and musical director of the Casteless Collective band. Tenma is reportedly finishing up the background score of the film. The artiste took to Instagram to express gratitude for the comments he’s been receiving for the song. Tenma said in his live video that he tried to work in the film industry some time ago, quit, and is now back. The director of the film, Athiyan too told Silverscreen that he had a similar trajectory where he worked, quit and has come back.
Another song from the film will be released in a few days, and that will be drastically different, Tenma said. The Gundu… album reportedly has six songs.
Nilemallam is a melange of folk forms—Dindivanam’s ‘therukoothu’ and Tirunelveli’s ‘magudattam’. Sung by K Chitrasenan, Arivu and, Gana Muthu, it has lyrics by poet Uma Devi. The ‘therukoothu’ portions are credited to Ezhumazhai, Iruthaswamy, Barani, Vijayan (Mirudangam), Rudhrakumar (Thaalam), Gokul (Thaalam) and the magudattam portions to S Kannan, P Shanker Ganesh and G Ganeshmoorthi. The film stars Dinesh (who debuted in Pa Ranjith’s Attakathi) and Anandhi (who was last seen in Pariyerum Perumal).
