According to The Indian Express, the four IT professionals were curious about the fourth episode and thus, accessed it illegally. Alok Sharma, one of the accused, also sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. The police are yet to find any proof if the four leaked the episode for gaining money.

On Monday, the four were produced before a court and remanded to the custody of BKC cyber police. An official, who was part of the probe, said, “Initially, there were suspicions that one of the accused had accessed the episode as his girlfriend wanted to see it. The girlfriend had then passed it onto others, one of whom uploaded it online.”

Mohammad Sohail was the first one who accessed the episode. Alok Sharma then accessed it and the accused then shared the links among themselves.

A few weeks ago, the four men, who are associated with the technology vendor Prime Focus Technologies based in Bengaluru, were arrested for leaking the fourth episode three days before its premiere.

The police had reportedly tracked the leaks earlier to the Bengaluru firm, but in the FIR it was stated that one employee and one former employee were involved. Further questioning of the company’s employees resulted in the arrest of four people for being complicit in the cyber crime, on August 11 night. The private company reportedly filed a written complaint to the MIDC police station in Andheri East in Mumbai.

The accused were booked under section 408, 34 of IPC for breach of trust with common intention and sections 43 and 66 of IT Act for penalty and compensation for damage to computer and computer-related offences.
