Gautham Menon, Sivakarthikeyan in Talks for a Vels Film International Production

Actor Sivakarthikeyan, who is awaiting the release of his Tamil film Doctor, is in talks with filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon for a film that will be backed by production house Vels Film International, a source close to the production house told Silverscreen India on condition of anonymity.

If this project takes off, it be the first time Sivakarthikeyan is directed by Menon. It will also be the actor’s first film for Vels Film International.

However, it will mark the filmmaker’s fourth collaboration with the banner. Their previous projects include Menon’s upcoming action thriller Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha and the Silambarasan-starrer Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu. It is to be noted that Vels also helped Menon produce the Dhanush-starrer Enai Noki Paayum Thota in 2019.

“The production house is in talks with both of them (Menon and Sivakarthikeyan), but nothing is fixed, including the story. They have just met and are in the early discussion stages. The banner has not signed anyone as of now. The project will likely only be confirmed in January 2022,” the source said, adding that the banner is currently concentrating on Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu. “GVM has just begun work on Simbu’s film. It will take about five months minimum to get this film completed. Sivakarthikeyan too has about two other films in the pipeline.”

The source also revealed that the post-production work of Joshua Imai Pol Kaakha is on.

Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan will be making his Telugu debut with a bilingual romantic comedy directed by Anudeep KV, who shot to fame with his comedy film Jathi Ratnalu (2021). It will be produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and is set to go on floors in November. The actor is also working on a couple of Tamil films: the science-fiction comedy Ayalaan and the action-comedy Don.

On the other hand, Menon, who last directed the segment Guitar Kambi Mele Nindru in Netflix’s Tamil anthology Navarasa, started shooting Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu in Thiruchendur in early August. The action-drama film will also be shot in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Vishakapatnam, and Chennai.
