Tamil director-actor Gautham Vasudev Menon, on Wednesday clarified that he is not involved in a film titled Anbuselvan after a poster of the film featuring him was tweeted by filmmaker Pa Ranjith. Menon added that it was ‘shocking’ and ‘scary’ that the fake poster was widely circulated by ‘big names’ in the Tamil film industry.
The poster of Anbuselvan, released by Pa Ranjith on Wednesday, had multiple images of Menon holding a gun with the tagline “The Cop Devil”. The poster mentioned that the film is directed by one A Vinoth Kumar and produced by one M Magesh under Seventy MM Studios banner.
“Here’s the first look of #AnbuSelvan So much intensity and impact indeed. Can’t wait to watch the action packed spell of @menongautham Best wishes to all,” Ranjith tweeted along with the poster on Wednesday.
Soon after Ranjith tweeted the poster, Menon tweeted “This is shocking & news to me. I have no idea what this film is that I’m supposed to be acting in. I don’t know or haven’t met the director whose name is on this poster. Producer has got big names to tweet this. It’s shocking & scary that something like this can be done so easily.”
Following Menon’s response, Ranjith’s tweet was deleted.
It is unclear how the fake poster was widely circulated by Tamil film industry members. It is to be noted that Anbuselvan is the name of Suriya’s character from the cop action thriller Kaakha Kaakha, directed by Menon himself in 2003.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Menon was last seen in Rudra Thandavam (2021). Besides, Menon, who also acts in other filmmakers’ projects, will feature in the Tamil action thriller, Selfie, alongside composer-actor GV Prakash, and Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai. He is also directing actor Silambarasan in Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu. It is produced by the Vels Film International banner.
