Gitanjali, wife of director Selvaraghavan, makes her directorial debut with Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam. Selvaraghavan broke the news on Twitter.

Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam, with Selvaraghavan’s story, screenplay and dialogues, would be directed by Gitanjali. The movie went on floors with Dhanush and Andrea earlier, but had to be shelved. “I have always been fond of the the story and told Selva that I would like to direct it. I really hope to do justice to his script,” said Gitanjali, and added that Selvaraghavan has been quite patient while explaining the nuances of film-making.

Gitanjali also revealed that Dhanush and Aishwarya are happy for her. “They have been extremely supportive and encouraging. Dhanush has been open about his experiences. He has always talked to me about films. And I’m venturing into this project with the blessings of my family,” she declared. A mother of two children, the director further divulged that Selvaraghavan would look after the children while she’s away. “For a while, he has chosen to step back from work and be with our children. My parents are also helpful. So, I could give my undivided attention to work.”
The flick features a team of debutantes. “From the actors to the production house, everyone is new. Sridhar, a long-standing assistant of cinematographer Ramji, is the DOP,” added Gitanjli, but refused to give more information.
The crew has completed a week of shooting, and the talkie portions will be completed in another couple of months.
