Director Gopichand Malineni will the direct the Telugu remake of A.R Murugadoss’s Tamil superhit Kaththi, ending months of speculation over who would direct the movie. Junior NTR is favoured to reprise the role that Vijay played in the original. Gopichand’s last film was the Ram Pothineni – Rakul Preet starrer Pandaga Chesko. The director is said to be getting inputs from Murugadoss – whom he considers his mentor – for the Telugu version.

Earlier, there was speculation that Pawan Kalyan was interested in the film but the project did not materialize as he became busy with his political career. Junior NTR will start working with Gopichand on this project as soon as he finishes his film with director Sukumar. Meanwhile Gopichand will finish scripting the movie and start pre-production, and shooting is likely to start towards the end of this year. The rest of the cast and crew will be finalized soon.
