Gotham City Sirens Will Star Margot Robbie As Harley Quinn; David Ayer To Direct

David Ayer will direct and produce Gotham City Sirens. The film is an adaptation of the comic book of the same name, and is an all-women film featuring Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. She first played the role in Suicide Squad (2016). 

The project has generated a lot of interest following the announcement, especially as it showcases DC’s top female villains. Casting is underway to find a suitable actress to play Poison Ivy. Reports indicate that Anne Hathaway might return to play Catwoman. Hathaway played the super-villain in Christopher Nolan’s Batman series.

Suicide Squad was this year’s most contentious film. After heavy promotions, the film failed to match the hype, leading to a barrage of abuse from fans. Warner Bros., the studio in charge of the film, has now roped in Geneva Robertson-Dworet to help Ayer with the screenplay. Robertson-Dworet has worked on the for the Tomb Raider remake and Sherlock Holmes 3.

Ayer is currently filming Bright, a Netflix original film starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Gotham City Sirens has been fast-tracked by Warner Bros, and will likely begin productionin mid-2017.
