The first look of Partner, the upcoming Tamil film led by Aadhi and Hansika Motwani, was released via social media on Wednesday. Its director Manoj Damodharan tells Silverscreen India that it will be a “comedy film, with a small element of science fiction.”
The film is written and directed by the debutant and produced by Goli Surya Prakash.
Speaking about his directorial debut, Manoj, who has previously worked with filmmakers Sarkunam and Dass Ramasamy, says, “At its core, Partner is a fun film. However, the comedy employed will not have any double-meaning jokes or be adult-oriented. The title is a reference to the light-hearted term that friends often use to address each other.”
Manoj says his original idea was to make a short film with the story, back in his college days. “When I eventually decided to work on my feature debut, this line came to mind as a potentially unique storyline to make my first film with,” he adds.
The film marks the first collaboration of Hansika and Aadhi. However, there is no romantic arc in Partner, since it’s not a love story, says the director. “We will be releasing the trailer soon, which will reveal more about the plot.”
Aside from Hansika and Aadhi, the cast also includes popular artists like Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar, Pandiarajan, Ravi Mariya, and Palak Lalwani, among others. Manoj says he had these actors in mind when he started to write the script, adding, “No one has a serious role in the film.”

The film went on floors at the end of 2019 and was wrapped up in 2021. It has been shot by Shabeer Ahammed and edited by Pradeep E Ragav, and is currently in the final stages of post-production. “The sound mixing works are on now,” says the director, adding that the film will feature a substantial amount of computer graphics (CGI).
The music of Partner is composed by Santhosh Dhayanidhi. “There will be three songs featured in the film and an additional one in the album,” says Manoj.
The director mentions that the team is looking for a theatrical release for Partner, sometime between May and June.
