Actors Harish Kalyan and Athulya Ravi are set to star in an upcoming Tamil film, which will be directed by filmmaker Shanmugam Muthusamy.
The film, produced by SP Cinemas in association with Third Eye Entertainment, was launched on Monday in Chennai in the presence of various prominent personalities.
Director Shanmugam said the film, which is tentatively referred to as ‘Production No 5’, will be a romantic action drama that revolves around gangsters in an underworld setup.
“This is the first time Harish will be doing a full commercial action film. Gangsters usually do not come under the eye of the public or cause disturbances, but this one will cause problems to many. Harish Kalyan’s character will have grey shades,” Shanmugam added.
The filmmaker has written the screenplay, story, and dialogues as well. “Since the underworld is a vast space, I began my research for the film about five years ago. It took time to get contacts, gain their trust, and work with them to create this story,” he said.
Shanmugam revealed that the film will be set in Chennai and Andhra Pradesh. The non-linear screenplay will feature three time periods – the 1990s, 2000s, and 2014.
Athulya is paired opposite Harish and she will be playing a lawyer. Other cast members include Yogi Babu, Ameer, and Karunas.
The film is set to go on floors on December 27 in Chennai and it will be shot by cinematographer Sridhar. Music director D Imman will be composing six songs for the untitled film.

Meanwhile, Shanmugam is also set to collaborate with actor Aishwarya Rajesh for a political drama. The filmmaker said that project is expected to take off sometime in June 2022 once he completes the film with Harish Kalyan. He also added that his film starring GV Prakash Kumar, Adangathey, is scheduled to release in theatres on January 26.
