Mirzya star Harshvardan Kapoor has apologised to Diljit Dosanjh for tweeting remarks that may have sounded like a criticism of the actor. Earlier, Kapoor had slammed the Filmfare Awards for presenting the Best Debut Male to Diljit for Udta Punjab. Kapoor said that Diljit was not a “genuine newcomer,” as he had acted before in regional language films as well another Hindi movie.
Kapoor’s first tweet condemning the decision sparked a number of responses from users, who defended Diljit’s performance in Udta Punjab.
Don't feel entitled to any award,I'm questioning the principle of who is a newcomer, have zero problems losing to a genuine newcomer

@HarshKapoor_ I thought you were great in Mirzya but if there's anyone to lose out to, it's Diljit. Keep your head up.

The sense of self entitlement some of these newcomer actors have is beyond imagination. If only they were half as talented.

After initially getting into a Twitter debate over the issue, the 26-year-old actor subsequently tweeted an apology to Diljit. He also tagged his father Anil Kapoor in the tweet.
Love you to sir, have lots of respect for you and your body of work sorry if I said anything that came out wrong @diljitdosanjh @AnilKapoor

Harshvardhan won a couple of awards himself but was clearly irked at the idea of losing the Best Debut award in particular. He told the Indian Express, “I won every award except Filmfare….I think debutant awards should be for people who are relatively new to films. I have done less work. Otherwise, it is like saying I have done 100 English films and now I am doing a Hindi film so I am a debutant. So if Leonardo Di Caprio wins an Oscar and then comes to do a Bollywood movie, he is a debutant which is not something I agree with.”
Meanwhile, Diljit said in an interview with DNA. “I am not hurt. I am not sad. I am thankful to Filmfare Awards for the honour that they gave me. I don’t think I was deserving enough. It’s a big award (and) I think they would have seen something in me and so they gave me the award.”
He also said, “I think actors like Fawad Khan and Dhanush have acted in other languages (referring to Pakistani movies and films in South India).”
“For me the love of my fans matter the most and that’s the biggest award for me. I love Harshvardhan Kapoor. I also like his father Anil Kapoor, he is a superstar,” he added.
Harshvardhan Kapoor is currently shooting for Vikramaditya Motwane’s next Bhavesh Joshi.
