Richa Chadha has started shooting for Shakeela, a biopic on the adult star. The first look of the film was released recently and one can say Richa has comfortably gotten into the skin of the character.

The team is currently shooting in a small town in Karnataka called Tirthahalli.
When asked about the first look, Richa said that the movie traces Shakeela’s journey from her younger days to her becoming a popular figure and the looks also travel with the course of the film. “The looks span over years, and with each passing time, her look changed. It is challenging to show this, but for me as an actor it’s gratifying that I get to grow with the real character on celluloid. Shakeela is still a legend and we wish to do complete justice to her when the film is ready.”
Earlier, it was reported that the biopic directed by Indrajit Lankesh will trace Shakeela’s entry in the film business at the age of 16 and her life’s journey from thereon.

A press statement from Chadha read: “The film is the story of Shakeela, one of the most famous actors from Malayalam cinema from the 90s who rose to a spectacular amount of fame. Her fans were spread across Asia and she earned fanfare as a woman which was unheard of, back then. The film’s script was exciting and is a great story to tell and the story will make for a great watch for the audience,” read the statement.
Shakeela, who hails from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, has featured in over 100 B-grade and softcore movies in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu. Her films have been dubbed and released in Nepalese, Chinese, and Sinhalese, apart from most of the Indian languages. Owing to her, the soft-porn movie industry in India was colloquially called as “Razni films”.
The Shakeela biopic is expected to release early 2019.
