Himesh Patel in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’; Parts Of Film To Be Shot In Mumbai In September

Himesh Patel, who starred in the Danny Boyle musical Yesterday, joins the cast of Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. The film also stars Robert Pattinson, John David Washington and it was earlier reported that Dimple Kapadia too has been roped in to play a part in this action epic.

According to Variety, which broke the story, “Nolan is directing from his own original screenplay and will use a mix of Imax and 70mm film to bring the story to the big screen. He and his wife, Emma Thomas, are also producing alongside Thomas Hayslip as executive producer.”

Patel-starrer Yesterday grossed $ 130 million worldwide and the actor has a range of projects up his sleeve from BBC’s miniseries The Luminaries to Amazon Studios’ The Aeronauts and the HBO series Avenue 5.

Several news reports have also said that some parts of the film, purportedly a chase sequence, will be shot in South Mumbai. “Tenet is expected to shoot largely in South Mumbai next month, in some of the town’s most recognisable areas, including the likes of Gateway of India, Colaba Causeway, and The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. Kapadia and Patel’s casting, in addition to production in Mumbai, further hints that Tenet has some kind of connection to India,” a report in NDTV said. Pinkvilla.com also reported, that the “Causeway market will be closed down for a day next month. While the date is still unknown, we do know that the market will be closed during the day for a few hours to shoot a portion of the film. The director and his team are expected to film in the bustling market space sometime between 8 AM and 2 PM next month… We also spotted an Indian team from the movie prepping the street for the shoot, earlier this week.”

Earlier, a source told Mumbai Mirror that Nolan was accompanied among others by production designer Nathan Crowley and cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur. Nolan was in Mumbai on Dungarpur’s invitation to an event organised by Film Heritage Foundation (of which Dungarpur is the Founder-Director) to highlight the need to promote, restore and preserve films. Tenet is expected to release in July 2020.
