The actor’s home banner 2D Entertainment, which produced Soorarai Pottru, and Abundantia Entertainment had announced last month that the film would be remade in Hindi and that the remake would be helmed by the director of the original film, Sudha Kongara. However, according to the TOI report, the Madras High Court has issued an injunction restraining 2D Entertainment from exploiting the Hindi rights of the film.

A source told the daily that Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment, which had co-produced the original film, had approached the court to obtain the injunction alleging that the Hindi film was to be made under their banner in association with 2D Entertainment but the latter had entered into a deal with Abundantia Entertainment without Sikhya’s consent. Sikhya also alleged that 2D had thus not fulfilled their obligations under the original contract.

When Silverscreen India reached out to Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian, CEO of 2D Entertainment, he responded with an official statement that read: “We have paid Sikhya Entertainment a huge sum of 3 crores for facilitating the acquisition of the rights of the book Simply Fly, apart from the actual rights money and Sikkiya’s expenses that we separately paid. Therefore, there is no iota of truth in their claims made in the case filed against 2D.”

“They have filed a baseless case to unnecessarily cause delay and unlawfully enrich themselves. We have all the necessary records to show that we are in the right and we will defend this legally,” he added in the statement.

Silverscreen India has reached out to Monga for comment, but she is yet to respond.
