That Chapter Is Closed: Singer Arijit Singh On His Relationship With Salman Khan

Bollywood singer Arijit Singh, in a recent interview with Times Of India, said that he had tried everything he could to patch things up with actor Salman Khan. The singer added that there was ‘little he could do‘ to salvage the situation. “I tried a lot to make Salman Khan understand that I can never disrespect him. But that does not mean I will continue apologising all the time. I have said sorry once and now the chapter is closed,” he said.

Arijt, who is currently one of the most popular singers in Bollywood, is now making his television debut through India’s Raw Star, a reality show which will be aired on Star Plus.

Arijit Singh and Salman Khan were allegedly in bad terms after Singh, inadvertently, disrespected the actor at an awards function in 2014. In an interview to NDTV Movies in May 2016, the singer revealed that at the Renault Star Guild Awards in 2014, upon receiving his Best Singer award, Arijit had told Salman Khan about how he fell asleep because of Salman and Riteish Deshmukh’s hosting skills.

The singer, who had sung a song for Salman’s Sultan 2016, took to Twitter at the end of May, pleading the actor to ‘forgive him’ and let his song in the film remain. Khan however, refused to accept Arijit’s apology, dodging and ignoring his calls and messages. Also, the song did not become a part of the movie.

“I am still working and the controversy has not affected my work. God forbid, if I don’t get to sing songs tomorrow, I will become a music producer. Whatever I said in that post on social media was something that was heartfelt and I meant every single word of it. There was no doubt in that. But that does not mean I will now be more cautious in what I do or say,” Arijit was quoted as saying by Times Of India.
